There are a number of distinct advantages to opt for a country
specific domain name (ccTLD) over a generic domain names (gTLD). One such advantage
is how the website will rank in various. Although the ranking
algorithms of all major search engines are proprietary and a closely secret, it would
appear that some preference is given to sites that use the ccTLD for the
country where the website visitor is located.
This is certainly true for many of the local search engines. There is no
evidence, however, that websites using a country specific TLD are poorly ranked in the
United States, unless that site is written in a language other than English.
